The US state department has told the BBC it will issue visas to Flávio Bolsonaro and his family as Brazilian authorities question his whereabouts.

Police in Brazil say they cancelled the senator’s passports after he failed to comply with a Supreme Court order to surrender the documents.

Reports from several media outlets suggest that the presidential candidate has travelled to the US.

“Those who have nothing to hide have nothing to fear,” says newly re-elected Brazilian President Lula, remarking on his rival’s whereabouts.
