US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping have delivered joint statements at the White House during Xi’s state visit to the United States.
Trump emphasised the strategic importance of the US-China relationship, highlighting progress on trade and a new mechanism for cooperation. He also discussed security and the need for cooperation on what he described as “super-intelligence” in artificial intelligence.
Xi Jinping said the two countries share a historical responsibility to promote global progress. He called for candid dialogue to manage differences and announced an initiative to invite 100,000 young Americans to China.
Both leaders expressed optimism about a future based on cooperation, constructive competition and “no conflict”. The state visit coincides with the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
