Serbia’s student-led movement has dealt a major blow to President Aleksandar Vucic’s political dominance, winning a parliamentary election after nearly two years of protests demanding accountability and an end to corruption.

The movement gained momentum after a railway station roof collapsed in Novi Sad in November 2024, killing 16 people. Its campaign called for greater accountability and an end to political control of the public broadcaster.

As supporters celebrate in Belgrade, the movement faces the challenge of turning its election victory into lasting political change.
