Saudi Arabia is preparing a massive land, sea and air response: Analysis

Nawaf Obaid, a senior research fellow at King’s College London, says the Houthis’ missile and drone attacks on Saudi cities, including a strike intercepted near Riyadh, have limited strategic value but generate powerful imagery. He warns a large, coordinated Saudi-led response, combining land, sea and air power, is already taking shape.

Obaid says a Red Sea maritime coalition held its final preparatory meeting in Jeddah, with countries including Turkey and, on a more limited scale, Egypt already moving weapons systems and warships into position. On land, he says Pakistan has deployed close to 10,000 troops and air defences at the border, alongside Sudanese, Bahraini and Qatari forces, with plans to expand. He describes recent Saudi contact with Washington as a request for intelligence and targeting support rather than direct US strikes, since Saudi air power is already sufficient.
