African leaders are gathering in Moscow for the third Russia-Africa Summit, as Russian military and economic influence grows across the continent. Russian paramilitary forces have backed campaigns in Mali and the wider Sahel, while hundreds of African fighters have reportedly died fighting for Russia in Ukraine. Despite deepening security ties, trade remains limited at $27bn, far behind China’s $348bn and the EU’s $402bn, raising questions about what African nations are gaining in return.
Al Jazeera’s Nicolas Haque reports from Dakar, Senegal.
