Pakistan imposes emergency rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa amid political crisis

Pakistan’s federal government has imposed emergency rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stripping power from the elected chief minister after talks with Imran Khan’s PTI party collapsed. The move follows planned protests demanding Khan’s release from jail, where he faces charges his supporters call politically motivated. Islamabad cites a worsening security situation along the 1,300km Afghan border, alleging most attacks originate there, while PTI accuses authorities of silencing political opposition rather than addressing it through elections.

Al Jazeera’s Osama Bin Javaid reports from Peshawar, Pakistan.
