More than 5,000 homes in Cornwall are currently experiencing power cuts, National Grid reports, as Storm Austen sweeps across parts of the UK.

The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for strong winds for Cornwall and parts of Devon.

Meanwhile, a red warning in place for Guernsey and Jersey and gusts of up to 80mph are set to hit the South West and the Channel Islands.

All schools in Jersey have been told to close on Friday. A number of schools are also closed or opening late in Cornwall.

Transport disruption is likely, with Great Western Railway (GWR) saying speed limits will be in place on routes between Devon and Cornwall until 13:00.
