Iran says its enriched uranium will remain inside the country, rejecting proposals to transfer an estimated 400 kilogrammes of nuclear material to Russian custody.
The announcement comes as Pakistan’s army chief, Asim Munir, visits Tehran to advance mediation efforts between Iran and the United States.
Iranian officials insist that Washington must rebuild trust before negotiations can resume, citing previous US attacks during diplomatic talks and refusing to compromise on Tehran’s seven-point proposal. Meanwhile, the White House has told Al Jazeera that the United States has no plans to attack Iran before the November 3 midterm elections.
However, questions remain over Washington’s intentions amid the deployment of three US carrier strike groups to the region and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s visit to Israel.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says the blockade has halted Iranian oil shipments, with Washington maintaining economic pressure on Tehran despite ongoing diplomatic efforts.

Al Jazeera’s Mohamed Vall reports from Tehran and Kimberly Halkett from the White House.
