The Houthis, who control much of northern Yemen, have expanded their military capabilities well beyond their mountain strongholds since seizing state institutions in 2014. Their arsenal, which US intelligence links to Iranian-origin technology, now includes ballistic missiles, drones and hypersonic weapons, claims which Tehran denies supplying. Recent territorial gains near the Bab al-Mandeb Strait have further strengthened the group’s control over one of the world’s most critical shipping routes.
