Families in Gaza have buried the remains of 105 Palestinians recovered nearly three years after they were killed in an Israeli attack on Gaza City. The victims were killed when the seven-storey al-Taj 3 residential building and nearby buildings in the al-Yarmouk neighbourhood were destroyed by Israeli air strikes in October 2023. Gaza’s Civil Defence says an estimated 7,000 people are still trapped beneath rubble across the Strip, with heavy machinery and international assistance needed to recover them. For families, the recovery of the remains provides long-awaited closure, but thousands are still waiting to learn the fate of their loved ones. One family member said 37 relatives, including his wife, four children, parents and siblings, were killed in the attack. The recovery of the 105 bodies is one of the largest such operations since the war began and could take years to complete.

Al Jazeera’s Ibrahim Khalili reports from Gaza City.
