US actor RJ Mitte, best known for his role as the defiant son of drug kingpin Walter White in the drama series Breaking Bad, has died at the age of 34.

“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte,” his representative told the BBC.

Mitte died in Brownsvillle, Texas, on Monday. His publicist confirmed that he took his own life.

The actor, who lived with cerebral palsy, drew on his own experience for his role as Walter ‘Flynn’ White Jr in the Emmy-winning drama series. Bryan Cranston, who played his father, led the tributes, writing that he was in “deep despair” following the news.
