France student protests demand more teachers and investment in education

Thousands of students have taken to the streets in Paris and other French cities, demanding better school conditions, more teachers and increased investment in education.

Students say overcrowded schedules, teacher shortages and a lack of resources are undermining their education and leaving young people feeling neglected by the state. Climate activist Greta Thunberg has joined the demonstrations, drawing attention to concerns about investment in the future of young people.

The protests were largely peaceful at first, but some demonstrations saw clashes with police and the use of tear gas. The French government has offered 3,000 substitute teachers, but protesters say the measure falls short of their demands and vow to continue their campaign.
