Ethiopian troops enter Tigray’s Adigrat as tensions with Eritrea escalate

Ethiopian government troops have entered the northern city of Adigrat in Tigray near the Eritrean border after rebel fighters withdrew.
This comes as Ethiopia and Eritrea both appealed to the UN Security Council to intervene, because of escalating tensions between the neighbours.
Ethiopia has accused Eritrea of a “blatant act of aggression”, accusing it of deploying troops inside Ethiopian territory.
Eritrea has rejected the accusation and called on the Security Council to condemn what it described as Ethiopia’s “deplorable declaration of war”.
