Australian MP Helen Haines has had both legs amputated after being deliberately struck by a car outside her electorate office in Wangaratta.
Police have charged 43-year-old Brendan Nugent, who allegedly reversed and rammed into her a second time; a motive has not yet been established.
The attack has reignited concerns over rising threats against Australian politicians, with authorities noting nearly one person is charged weekly for targeting MPs. Haines, known for her advocacy on rural healthcare access, remains in critical but stable condition.

Al Jazeera’s Julide Ayger reports.
