An early fall nor’easter is gathering strength along the central East Coast, pounding beaches in several states with heavy surf and threatening to bring coastal flooding, wind and rain to parts of the Northeast through the weekend.
The nor’easter, named for the direction its punishing winds come from, currently sits several hundred miles off the Mid-Atlantic coast and will begin to track north and strengthen over the next two days. More than 40 million people will feel the impacts from the nor’easter from now through the weekend, from either wind, rain, coastal flooding or some combination of those.
CNN meteorologist Allison Chinchar says the slow-moving storm is set to bring “round after round” of strong winds and heavy rain to coastal communities. Also, News 12 New Jersey’s Lauren Due reports conditions from a New Jersey beach and Chief Michael Cranson of the Nantucket Fire Department says he expects flooding.
