Russia has launched one of its largest aerial attacks on Ukraine since the war began, killing at least 20 people and injuring dozens, according to Ukrainian authorities. Missiles and drones struck Kyiv and several other regions, damaging residential buildings, industrial sites and critical infrastructure. In Pryluki in the Chernihiv region, a Russian missile destroyed part of a five-storey apartment building, killing at least 14 people, including four children, and leaving about 50 others injured. Rescue workers continued searching through the rubble for survivors and bodies. Ukraine says energy infrastructure was among the key targets, with the strikes coming as the country prepares for colder weather. Russia’s Defence Ministry said it carried out a massive strike on military-industrial facilities and other targets across Ukraine, as well as port and ship-repair infrastructure in the Odesa region. Residents in Pryluki described the destruction of their homes and belongings, while Ukrainian authorities accused Moscow of seeking to damage the country’s energy system and demoralise civilians.

Al Jazeera’s Jonah Hull reports from Pryluki, Ukraine.
