About 450,000 people joined the high school protests across France on Tuesday, organisers said, as hundreds of high schools were blockaded in a nationwide day of action.

The protesters are campaigning against long hours, missing teachers and crumbling classrooms.

The French interior ministry’s figure is much lower: it said about 250,000 joined the protests, with 56,000 people reported in Paris.
