Iran says 313,000 people have been mobilised in Tehran as part of preparations for a potential crisis.
Authorities say volunteers include civilians from different generations and backgrounds who can be trained and assigned to battalions.
The figure 313 has symbolic importance in Shia Islam.
Participants at the mobilisation said they do not want war but are ready to defend their country if necessary.
